It's a
good time to be rich. well actually it's always a good time to be rich but for
those high paid executives of the world. There's never been a better time to
own a large extended wheelbase luxury sedan. A few years ago in the
mercedes-benz s-class really changed the game with new levels of refinement and
luxury. Well now it's BMWs time to respond with an all-new 7 Series, and
respond did they ever.
The new 7
Series is available with six eight or soon even 12 cylinders. All of them are
turbocharged and send gobs of power through an 8-speed automatic. In the 750 I
like I'm driving here, power sent to all four wheels from a 4.4 liter v8 that
makes 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Despite having a total
length that's over 206 inches long and a curb weight that's over 4,600 pounds
the 750i X Drive can accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 4 points. It's deceiving
how quickly power builds in this car. I don't even know how fast I'm going
until they see the readout on the massive head-up display. Smooth and supple is
the best way to describe the 7 Series ride. The adjustable air suspension is so
good at dealing with road imperfections. It plays tricks on your mind. Look
here I see a giant crack coming and didn't even feel that.
The 7
series is a big car and it drives that way. But even for a vehicle this large
it still handles pretty well. BMW has the dynamics nailed even in a barge like
this, but enough about driving. The back of the seventh series is the place to
be especially when it comes equipped with the executive lounge seating package like
I am in right now. It transforms the back of the 7 Series into a first-class airline
cabin for starters I have a fully power adjustable seat. It's heated ventilated
and can even be set through one of several massage settings. Heck I can even go
through BMWs vitality exercise program. That uses the seat massagers and the
rear screen to do a little workout routine. And for maximum comfort the right
side rear seat turns into lounge mode like this. The front seat
powers all the way to the front the seat itself reclines and a footrest even deploys
for ultimate lounging. I shouldn't be expected for any big shot getting
chauffeured back here I can control most of the cars functions using the screen
here in the center console.: Seats climate, vehicle settings, navigation they
can all be controlled through this touchscreen. And it's sitting up to use this
screen is a little too much effort. I have a remote control and can control all
those functions through either of the rear display screens as well. And I think
it's a little stuffy in here I can spray out a little bit of a scent using one
of the two built-in authorizers in the vehicle. I can also change all of the
ambient colors and there's even soft lights built into the door here. So I can
have a little more light at night while the driver remains in darkness in the
front.
And
speaking of night both moonroof are filled with little LED lights that also change
color when you change the ambient color to give you a starry sky, green, blue,
orange ,violet, whatever make the moon roof whatever color you want. But back
to daytime if the heat from the Sun or the paparazzi gets a little too much there
is shades built into all the windows back here as you can see I already have
some up. So you get a little more privacy and stay cool. Now how about a little
bit of online surfing using the 7-series built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. Best of all
this little seven inch screen here is actually a tablet that I can remove.
All right
time to set a high score on candy Birds or angry friend words. but all about technological
wizardry is not just reserved for me in the back. the driver gets to play with
a lot of cool gadgets. There's night vision active steering adaptive cruise
control and BMWs gesture controls for basic infotainment operations. And they
get to walk around with this cool display key. That has pages and pages of
information about the vehicle that allows you to lock and unlock it from
virtually anywhere. And those worried about recharging the key well there's a
pocket port in the center console that wirelessly recharges it at all times. The
new 7 Series is a technological wonder on wheels that is quite comfortable
luxurious and fast.
